Archaeological Museum of Sparta – Renovation and Extension

GaiaComm completed the preliminary works for the temporary support of excavations related to the underground extension of the Archaeological Museum of Sparta.

The works formed part of the wider renovation and extension project of the museum, which includes the construction of a new underground space of approximately 597 m², arranged in a Π-shaped layout around three sides of the existing building, together with a glazed ground-floor extension.

The scope of the preliminary works focused on the safe preparation and temporary support of the excavation areas required for the underground extension. These works were essential for enabling the next stages of construction, ensuring excavation stability, site safety, and proper management of geotechnical conditions within a sensitive cultural and architectural environment.

Given the importance of the existing museum building and the archaeological character of the project, the works required careful technical planning, controlled execution, and close attention to ground behaviour, construction constraints, and protection of the surrounding structures.

This project reflects GaiaComm’s capability to support demanding civil infrastructure and cultural heritage projects through specialized geotechnical engineering, excavation support works, and site-specific technical expertise.
